Dr. Vincent Novak Named Summit Medical Center's Physician of the Quarter
January 28, 2009 Vincent Novak, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Premier Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Hermitage, was recently named Physician of the Quarter for 4th quarter 2008 by the staff of Summit Medical Center. Dr. Novak specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremity, including hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow surgery.
Dr. Novak graduated from the University of Maryland as a mechanical engineer and received a masters degree in biomechanical engineering through research performed at Johns Hopkins University. After working for several years as a bioengineer, he received his medical degree from the University of Maryland. He completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He went on to complete a fellowship in hand, shoulder and elbow surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He moved to Nashville from Asheville, North Carolina where he previously served in private practice.
The Physician of the Quarter honor is given to those physicians who exemplify the hospitals mission statement, known as I-SERVE: Integrity, Selfless, Exceptional quality, Respect, Visionary, Excellence. Criteria for nomination include:

- Shows sensitivity to staff, patients and families
- Open to views and opinions of others
- Respectful and honest in interactions with others
At the end of the year, Summit employees will name a Physician of the Year, choosing from the four Physicians of the Quarter recipients.
